About
Darion Allen
Filmmaker, Podcast Host, Public Speaker
Born and raised by my mother and grandmother in the Florence-Graham neighborhood of Los Angeles, I am a young black man with a strong sense of self and unwavering respect for all cultures. From a young age I developed a “by any means necessary” mentality that helped me overcome the perils of my environment and continues to motivate me as a filmmaker. In addition, growing up among an assortment of cultures has made me comfortable working with people of all backgrounds, which is a very important skill I appreciate having as an aspiring black filmmaker.
I am a graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I attained a B.S. in Personal Finance, B.S. in Communication Arts, Certificate in Digital Studies, and Certificate in Digital Cinema Production. In addition to my studies, I served as the Talk Director and radio talk show host with WSUM 91.7 FM Madison Student Radio and served as the Vice President of a Venture Capital Club on campus.
Currently, I am a graduate student pursuing my Master's of Fine Arts with Loyola Marymount University's program in Film & TV Production. With an ultimate goal to become a prominent figure in contemporary Hollywood cinema, I am dedicated to writing and directing films that encapsulate the essence of the black experience and contribute to the ongoing efforts to develop a holistic image of blackness in film. By focusing on creating authentic depictions of black culture, I hope to bring people closer to understanding what it truly means to be black in this world. In addition, I plan on serving black and brown communities like mine by designing film curriculums to instill the fundamentals of filmmaking in the next generation of visionaries.
